Robert Earl Bartley, age 78, of Clinton, Tennessee, and formerly of Corbin, passed away on Monday, August 1, 2011 at Mercy Hospice in Knoxville. He was born Feb. 28, 1933 in Corbin to the late Robert Edgar and Florence Peace Bartley. Mr. Bartley was retired from Martin Marietta Energy Systems where he was a computer programmer at the Y-12 plant. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Clinton and very active in the XYZ Ministry, in which he also sang. Mr. Batley enjoyed music, poetry, history, aviation, and "do-it-yourself" type projects. When his wife was living, they enjoyed playing golf together. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Frieda Anderson Bartley on February 20, 2004. He is survived by his son, Robert Stewart Bartley and wife Christina of Alexandria, VA and two grandchildren, Erik Bartley and Emma Bartley, also of Alexandria. The family received friends on Thursday, August 11, 2011 from 5-7 pm at Weatherford Mortuary in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, and the funeral will follow at 7pm with Rev. Stan Elliott and Rev. Terry Baker officiating. A graveside service was held at 11am on Friday, August 12, at Calvary Cemetery in Corbin. Vankirk-Grisell Funeral Home was in charge of local arrangements. Memorials were suggested to the XYZ Ministry of First Baptist Church of Clinton, PO Box 268, Clinton, TN 37717.
