Basel E. Humfleet, 90, of Gray, passed away on Monday, October 19, 2009 at Oak Tree Hospital.
Born in Harlan County, he was the son of the late William Harrison Humfleet and Nannie Bell Bowling Humfleet. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and was a member of the Living Waters Pentecostal Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Walter Lee, Joe, Clifford, Coy, Clayton and Audrey; sisters, Helen Humfleet, Coleen Humfleet, Lena Smith and Arlene Martin.
He is survived by his wife, Georgia Hollin Humfleet; children, Brenda Miracle and husband Jerry of Gray, Joe Humfleet and wife Anna of Corbin, Charlie Humfleet and wife and special daughter-in-law Teresa of Gray, and Marlo Huff and husband James of Gray; brother, Robert Humfleet and wife Merle of Indiana; eight grandchildren, Shelly Blankenship, Misty Steele, Christopher Humfleet, Kelly Bowling, James Humfleet, Jonathan Humfleet, Ashley Huff and Austin Huff; 15 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren, all who mourn his passing.
Funeral service will be conducted at 2 pm Thursday, Oct. 22, at the Living Waters Pentecostal Church with Rev. R.P. Edwards and Rev. Claude Medlin officiating. Burial will follow in Helton Cemetery on Sam Parker Rd.
The family will receive friends from 6-9 pm Wed., Oct. 21, at the Vankirk-Grisell Funeral Home.
