Berneda Yeary Gallagher

October 24, 1915 — August 4, 2014

Berneda Yeary Gallagher, 98, passed away on August 4, 2014. She was born on October 24, 1915 in Middlesboro, Kentucky, the daughter of Lawrence W. and Minnie Yeary. She was married to Samuel T. Gallagher for 62 years, and they lived in Corbin since that marriage. He died in 2002.
Mrs. Gallagher is survived by her nieces, Janet Yeary Burrows and Jody Yeary Kornberg; two sisters-in-law, Helen Sharpe of Oak Ridge, Tennessee and Ethleen Gallagher of Hendersonville, North Carolina; and by numerous caring nephews and nieces of her late husband. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brothers, Noble, Cecil, and Otto Yeary.
Many will recall that Mrs. Gallagher managed the landmark Yeary Motel in Corbin that her father had constructed. At an earlier time, she worked in the insurance industry. She and her husband, Sam, were known in the area for calling square dances. Both were avid golfers, winning many trophies and awards to attest to their skill. Mrs. Gallagher was also an award winning artist. She was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, and participated in many local activities.
Her Funeral Mass will be at 1:00 pm Wednesday, Aug. 13, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Father Mike Weglicki as celebrant. Interment will be in the Pine Hill Cemetery.
Mrs. Gallagher's life will be celebrated with a visitation from 6-9 pm Tuesday, Aug. 12, at Vankirk-Grisell Funeral Home. A Rosary service will be held at 8:30 pm.
