Charles Thomas Jefferis, 73, of Corbin, passed away on Thursday, Feb. 5, 2009, at the Baptist Regional Medical Center.
Born in Chatfield, Minnesota, he was the son of the late Robert Fulton Jefferis and the late Ruth Bolton Jefferis. He was a U.S. Army veteran.
He is survived by his wife Stella Williams Jefferis; three children, Mark Jefferis, Michael B. Jefferis, and Daniel Jefferis, all of Minneapolis, Minnesota; sisters, Mary Ellen Barth of Preston, MN, and Roberta Copeman, Marlene Hisey, and Judy Stites, all of Chatfield, MN; brothers, Mallory Jefferis of Colorado Springs and Michael R. Jefferis of Minneapolis; two sisters-in-law, Ollie Williams Belcher of Corbin and M. Eileen Holderfield of Denver; and many nieces, nephews and dear friends, all who mourn his passing.
Tom was an art teacher in Howard's Grove, Wisconsin, for many years. He and his beloved wife Stella were married for 34 years and retired to Keavy nine years ago. Tom was one of those intelligent, interesting, witty fellows. He had almost learned to be a Kentuckian except for his accent and enjoyed and suffered through many hours of "Kentucky" lessons, stories and what he thought were folk tales, but we told him were the truth. He was a passionate aviator and spent many hours flying over Southeastern Kentucky. When he lost his medical, he became a passionate virtual aviator with his personal flight simulator.
Tom could always be found sitting in his chair in the sun with coffee at hand and his crossword puzzle book in his lap. He was a gourmet cook and loved to fix up special treats for his friends and family. Many a day he would call to come for coffee and those wonderful caramel rolls or fresh bread still hot from the oven. He always had a joke and a gleam in his eye. Seeing him and talking with him will be one of our life-long treasures.
We love you Tom and you will always be in our heart and in our memory.
