Charles Leroy Wessel, age 79, of Gray, KY, passed away on Thursday, March 6, 2025, at his home.
Born in Beardstown, IL, he was the son of the late Bud and Wilma Wessel. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Patsy Stephens, and brother, Dick Wessel.
Charles was a man of many passions, with a particular fondness for antique cars and the roar of a classic Corvette engine. His interest in heavy machinery was far from casual; it led him to establish the respected C.L. Wessel Heavy Equipment in Beardstown, IL. With relentless dedication and a deep knowledge of the industry, Charles grew his business, extending its reach to Peoria, IL, and in Gray, KY. His commitment to maintaining an honest, reliable business was a testament to his character and reflected his genuine enjoyment of hard work.
Charles's love extended beyond his work to his family, friends, and his prized horses, CL and Sassy, and loyal dog, Toby. He was a man who held his loved ones close, demonstrating a level of affection and care that will be deeply missed. Charles's life was a portrait of dedication, a testament to his ambitious spirit, and a celebration of the love he had for those around him.
He is survived by his daughters, Valeri Spears and Kim Peck (Brandon); granchildren, Sydne, Dakota, Skylar, Wessle, and Hunter; and special friends, Sandy and Derek Eubanks.
