Chester L. Vogler

October 4, 1930 — March 5, 2024

Chester L. Vogler, a beloved husband, father, and friend, passed away peacefully on March 5, 2024 at the age of 93 in Buzzards Bay, Massachusetts. His journey came to a close due to complications from dementia.

He was born of humble beginnings on October 4, 1930, in Vogler’s Cove, Nova Scotia, Canada to Edwin and Martha Vogler.

After graduating from high school and seeking prosperity, Chester immigrated to the United States and became a US citizen in 1952. He soon joined the US Navy as a Disbursing Clerk 2nd Class, serving in both Europe and Southeast Asia.

Chester was a respected Past Master Freemason at The Mariner’s Lodge, holding the title of 32nd Degree Mason. He was also a member of Grace Episcopal Church in New Bedford, Massachusetts.

Chester spent 38 years as a top salesman and manager at Sears Roebuck & Co., where he was known for his dedication, extreme work ethic and commitment to excellence. In 1970, he played a pivotal role in the launch of Sears’ flagship location in the original Cape Cod Mall, which was the largest private construction project in Cape history at the time.

In retirement, Chester moved full time to Zellwood, Florida where he spent his days perfecting his golf game. He was an avid conversationalist and storyteller. Chester cherished spending time with his family, friends, and anyone willing to listen to his humorous tall tales.

Chester was predeceased by his first wife, Elizabeth “Betty” Conti of East Bridgewater, Massachusetts, as well as his second wife, Janice Hamlin of Corbin, Kentucky. He is survived by his children David Vogler of New York and his daughter Susan Vogler of Massachusetts and their spouses.

The family requests that donations be made in Chester’s memory to The Alzheimer's Association at www.alz.org in lieu of flowers. Chester will be remembered as a kind, devoted, and honorable man who brought joy and laughter to all those who knew him.
