Cleland Lesley Thorpe

Cleland Lesley Thorpe, age 82, of Corbin, passed away on Wednesday, December 13, 2023, at Eastern Kentucky Veterans Center in Hazard, Kentucky.

Born in Keavy, Kentucky, he was a son to the late George Curry Thorpe and Grace Jones Thorpe. From an early age Cleland had a desire to serve others. He served in both the U.S. Army and U.S. Air Force, while serving he earned an Associates Degree from Georgia Military College. He would later serve as a Corbin City Commissioner and on the Foster Parent Review Board. He was also a mason with Hugh Harris Lodge No. 938 and worked for the U.S. Postal Service. In his spare time, he enjoyed studying his family genealogy.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Joyce Ann Thorpe, and siblings, Ruth Thorpe, Everett Thorpe, Roger Thorpe, Inez Thorpe, Gene Thorpe, Lewis Thorpe, Junior Leo Thorpe, and Carl Thorpe.

He is survived by his children, Leslie Ann Thorpe and Brian Nathan Thorpe (Stephanie), grandchildren, Austin Thorpe, Zachary Thorpe, and Piper Jane Thorpe, twin brother, Leland Wesley Thorpe, sister, Janet Amburgey, numerous nieces and nephews, and by his loving puppy "Little Rascal."

Visitation will be held from 12-2pm on Wednesday, December 20, 2023, at Vankirk-Grisell Funeral Home.

Masonic Rites will be conducted by Hugh Harris Lodge No. 938 at 2pm, at the funeral home, where Cleland's funeral service will follow with Rev. Ronnie Smith officiating.

Graveside service will follow at Locust Grove Cemetery in Keavy, Ky, with military honors conducted by Keavy D.A.V. - Chapter 158.

Pallbearers will be Austin Thorpe, Zach Thorpe, Tony Thorpe, Wes Thorpe, Don Thorpe, and Billy Bingham. Honorary pallbearers: Randall Storms, Ray Thorpe, Raleigh Anders, Jerry Moses, Tommy Driggers, Bill Sosh, Gary Bingham, Harold Bales, Lee Smallwood, and Wesley Messer.
