David Patterson Medlin, born January 21, 1936, in Cracker Neck Hollow of Gray, Kentucky, departed this life on May 26, 2009, being 73 years, four months and five days of age.
David was of Holiness Faith being baptized on April 26, 2009, at Gray Holiness Church. He was a dedicated employee of 45 years at Knox County Board of Education.
David was preceded in death by his wife of 39 years, Killa Edith Woods Medlin; his parents, Gassie Dan Medlin and Florence Cox Medlin; one sister, Anna Medlin LaFantine; three brothers, Claude William Medlin, John Wesley Medlin and Ronald Jerome Medlin; and one grandchild, Brandon Edward Medlin, whom he missed greatly.
David is survived by five children: two daughters, Barbara Causey and husband Clarence of Keavy and Glenda Adams and husband Elmer of Gray; three sons, Dennis Medlin and wife Shirley, Darrell Medlin and wife Patricia, and Verlin Medlin and wife Tammi, all of Gray; two sisters, Exona Medlin Martin of Corbin and Arlene Medlin Flagg of Gray; one brother, General Johnson Medlin of Gray; a nephew raised as a brother, Daniel Lee Medlin of Keavy; 12 grandchildren; one great-grandchild, Braiden Maciah Medlin; and a long-time friend, Lee Roy Brisco Mills; and a host of family and friends to celebrate his life.
The funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm Friday, May 29, 2009 at Vankirk-Grisell Funeral Home with Bro. Roger Miller, Bro. Dan Watkins, and Bro. Glenn Wilson officiating. Burial will follow at the Gray Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be friends and family. Honorary pallbearers will be the faculty and staff of West Knox School and Knox County Board of Education.
The family will receive friends from 6-9 pm Thursday, May 28, at Vankirk-Grisell Funeral Home.
