Dominic Joseph Payne

Dominic Joseph Payne, 8 months old, of Corbin, gained his wings on Wednesday, May 31, 2017 at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center after a life-long battle with pulmonary vein stenosis and congenital heart defect. As his parents, Christopher Payne and Melissa Schmit of Corbin, we could not be more proud of our little superhero.
Dominic is also survived by his sister, Samantha Schmit of Coon Rapids, MN; a grandmother, Juanita Payne of North Corbin; two grandfathers, Vernon Payne of Corbin and William Schmit of Belle Plaine, MN; two uncles, Joshua Payne of North Corbin and Brody Baden of Coon Rapids, MN; a host of loving family members in both Minnesota and Kentucky; and a host of caring friends literally around the world.
He was preceded in death by a grandmother, Karen Dallman of Minnesota; and several great-grandparents including Vernon "Peanut" Payne, who shares his great-grandson's nickname. He was also preceded by an aunt, Ronda Gadbaw of Minnesota.
Visitation for Dominic will be Wednesday, June 7, at Vankirk-Grisell Funeral Home in Corbin, from 12-2 pm. We also ask that visitors come in casual dress. We will conduct memorial services at a later date in both Minnesota and Kentucky.
In lieu of flowers, we'd also like to ask that donations be made to help with final expenses. Any money left over will be donated to the Ronald McDonald House of Greater Cincinnati, which helped us out so much in this journey. And please, hug your child and tell them you love them, because they are the most precious gift we have.
