Donald R. Justice, age 79, a beloved husband, father, and grandfather peacefully left this world on December 26, 2024.
Born in London, Kentucky, on January 25, 1945, to the late George W. Justice and Mary Johnson Justice, Donald lived his life with a spirit of kindness, resilience, and a deep sense of duty. Donald's life was marked by his commitment to service. He proudly served his country in the Vietnam War, earning recognition as a US Army Veteran. Following his military service, Donald continued to serve his community as a dedicated clerk for the US Postal Service, where his warmth and dedication were felt by all who had the fortune to cross his path. In retirement, this same dedication was seen in his active membership at Frankfort Baptist Church, where his faith and fellowship were sources of comfort and joy.
A devoted husband, Donald found his greatest happiness in the company of his wife, Joyce Jones Justice. Together they enjoyed the simple pleasures of life, often found bowling—a shared hobby that brought them countless hours of joy. Though he is no longer with us, his love and legacy continue to live on in the hearts of those who knew him. Donald's life was a testament to the love he had for his family, his country, and his community.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Joyce Jones Justice; two sons, Donald R. Jr. and Robert M., daughter, April D., daughter-in-law, Tabitha; son-in-law, Keyth; nine grandchildren, Felicia, Devin, Noah, Hannah, Zachary, Jake, Rachel, Spencer, and Alicia; two great-grandchildren, Waylon and Weston; nephew/son, John Bradner; five sisters-in-law; three brothers-in-law; and a host of special nieces, nephews, cousins, other family, church family and many friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his two sisters and four brothers.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, December 29, 2024, from 6-8 pm at the Vankirk-Grisell Funeral Home, where his funeral service will be held at 1 pm on Monday, December 30, 2024, with Rev. James Hodge officiating.
Burial will follow in Rest Haven Cemetery in Corbin, with Military Honors by the Keavy DAV. Serving as pall bearers will be his grandsons, Zachary, Noah, Devin, Jake, Spencer, and nephew, Dougie Gilkerson. Honorary pall bearers will be Rodney Ison, Tommy Davis, Les Williamson, and nephews, Harrell and Darrel Gilkerson, Mike Jones, John Bradner, Mike and Glen Calebs, and brothers-in-law, Finley Jones, David Jones, and Gene Jones.
