Duane E. Sykes, 49, of Corbin, passed away on Sunday, June 24, 2007 at Baptist Regional Medical Center
"God took our angel on earth because He needed a special angel at home!!"
Duane attended the Gordon Hill Deliverance Church and had been a server at the Western Sizzlin in Corbin.
He leaves behind his mother, Virginia McVey of Corbin; sister, Andrea Couch and husband Chester Couch of Corbin; brothers, Leonard (Dale) Sykes of Corbin and Carey Sykes and wife Carol of New York; nephews, Joshua Couch, Chester Couch III, Ben Sykes and Nick Sykes; nieces, Sara Couch and Tara Sykes. He also leaves behind his foster mother, Gloria Edna Coffey (Mammaw). He was preceded in death by Rev. William Kelcie Coffey (Pappaw). He also leaves behind brothers, James Coffey of Corbin and Henry (Gene) Coffey of Lakeview, KY; sisters, Wanda Russell of Corbin, Linda Kinney of Corbin, Barbara Barton of Corbin and Donna Bass of Corbin. He also leaves a great host of nieces and nephews and too many friends to list. Loved by all!! He also leaves two "very special" uncles, Rev. Richard Rogers and Glenn (Baldy) Rogers.
Funeral service will be held at 2pm Wednesday, June 27, at the Vankirk-Grisell Funeral Home with Bro. Richard Rogers officiating. Burial will follow in the Stansbury Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Gary Jackson, Roger Coffey, Bryan Coffey, Blake Tompkins, Mike Adkins, Chester Couch III, Jeffrey Sykes and Bill Coffey.
The family will receive friends from 6-9 pm Tuesday at the Vankirk-Grisell Funeral Home.
