Effie Lewis Spurlock

Effie Lewis Spurlock of Corbin passed away Friday, December 6, 2013 at The Heritage surrounded by her loving family, at the age of 86 years, 6 months and 3 days.
She was born at Hyden, Kentucky to the late Mary Elizabeth Cornett Lewis and John L. Lewis. Also she was preceded in death by her loving husband Ben G. Spurlock, son Everett Spurlock, great-granddaughter Makenzie Foley, brothers Lee Lewis, Boone Lewis, Bige Lewis, Orie Lewis, Cecil Lewis and James E. Lewis, and sisters Martha Adams, Mary Maggard, Edith Day and May Day.
Effie was a faithful member of the Lily Church of Christ and enjoyed caring for her family through her cooking, sewing and quilting, housekeeping, and time spent reading her Bible.
She leaves behind her children Glenn Fields (Wilma Jean), Elton Spurlock (Bernice), Kathy Shepherd (Alvin), and Rhonda Watson (Darrell); grandchildren Glenda Proffitt (Kenneth), Michael Fields (Becky), Ralph Daniel Spurlock, Everett Spurlock Jr. (Ilene), Elton Wayne Spurlock (Tina), Jeremy Shepherd (Haley), Crystal Shepherd, and Travis Watson (Jennifer); great grandchildren Kenneth Proffitt (Jennifer), Brandon Spurlock, Allison Spurlock, Owen Fields, Joshua Spurlock, Terri Jackson, Chase Shepherd, Isabella Blevins, Haley Dillon, Benjamin Dillon, Logan Baltazar, Alex Baltazar, Zayne Watson, and great-great granddaughter Aubrey Proffitt; a special friend Roberta Garlic, and many other family members and friends who were blessed to have known her. Effie's loving nature touched the hearts of all who knew her.
Her funeral will be held at 1pm Tuesday at the Vankirk-Grisell Funeral Home Chapel with Darrick Shepherd officiating. Burial will follow at the McHargue Cemetery with grandsons serving as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends 6-9pm Monday at the funeral home.
