Elton Spurlock

Elton "Alton" Spurlock, age 82, passed away Saturday, April 2, 2022 at his home in Lily, KY. He was born on January 11, 1940 in Hyden, KY to the union of the late Ben and Oda Spurlock. He retired from National Standard and was a faithful member of the Lily Church of Christ. Poppys, as he was lovingly called, enjoyed his family and hunting as well as watching UK sports and westerns. Left to mourn his passing is his beloved and devoted wife of 60 years, Bernice Farris Spurlock, his son Elton Wayne Spurlock and wife Tina, grandson Joshua Spurlock and wife Amy, granddaughter Teri King and husband Austin, and great-grandson Weston Wayne King; two sisters: Kathy Shepherd and husband Alvin, Rhonda Watson and husband Darrell; and a sister-in-law, Wilma Fields. A host of nieces, nephews, hunting buddies and friends also survive. In addition to his parents, Elton was also preceded in death by his step-mother Effie Spurlock and siblings J.B. Spurlock, Everett Spurlock and wife Shirley, Glenn Fields, Bonnie Napier, and Geneva Farris. The funeral service for Elton Spurlock will be held at 1:00pm Wednesday, April 6, at the Vankirk-Grisell Funeral Home with Billy Burke and Allen Shepherd presiding. Burial will follow in the McHargue Cemetery at Lily. The family will receive friends after 6:00pm on Tuesday, April 5 at the funeral home.
