Flora Parks, 97, of Chapel House, Corbin, was born in Whitley County on Jan. 5, 1909 and passed away Friday, Aug. 25, 2006 at Christian Health Center in Corbin.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Rebecca Kidd; one son, Eugene Parks; daughter-in-law, Mary Ann Crockett Parks; sisters, Ada Rains, Lora Lovitt, Mattie Shepherd, Grace Parks; and a brother, Everett Kidd.
She also leaves behind six nieces, Irene Watson of Williamsburg, Rebecca Leick, Cathy Jones and Maxine Eckert, all of Corbin, Carroll Smith of West Chester, Ohio, and Dorothy Tippie of Crittenden; a nephew, Doyle Lovett of Depauw, Indiana; and several great-nieces and great-nephews who will mourn her passing.
Flora was a longtime resident of Pineville where she was owner of the Shady Lunch, Parks Restaurant and the Hub Grill. She was a longtime member of the Binghamtown Baptist Church in Middlesboro, a member of the D.A.R. and a 50-year member of the Eastern Star.
The funeral service will be at 1 pm Tuesday in the Vankirk-Grisell Funeral Home chapel. Burial will be in the Young Cemetery in Corbin.
Visitation will be at the Vankirk-Grisell Funeral Home in Corbin from 10 am until 1 pm Tuesday. Croley Funeral Home of Williamsburg is in charge of the arrangements.
