Gearl Pennington, 79, of Corbin, went Home to be with Jesus on Tuesday, June 26, 2012, at 7:42 pm at Baptist Regional Medical Center.
He was born, along with his identical twin brother Earl, into a loving family at their home on 17th Street in Corbin to the late Abraham Lincoln (Link) Pennington Sr. and the late Lettie Lou Trammell Pennington.
He served alongside his twin brother in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and worked throughout his life as a general builder/ contractor and was part owner of E.G.&K. Construction Co. of Corbin with his brothers Earl and Kenneth Pennington.
He was a devoted Husband, Father, and Grandfather, and found enjoyment spending time with his family and 'tinkering' with his antique Packards. He found endless pleasure in watching UK Basketball, attending UK Football, and in later years enjoyed watching Tiger Woods playing Golf. He was a major contributor to the present Tri-County area through his construction of many Churches, Banks, and many, many beautiful homes and buildings. His legacy will continue to live on throughout years to come for the benefit of his family and many friends.
He is survived by: A loving wife of 55 years, Dorothy Greene Pennington; two devoted children, Brandon Gearl Pennington of Corbin and Deedra Lee Pennington of Marietta, Ga.;   five loving Grandchildren: Jeremy Allen & Lindsey Farmer of Marietta, Ga., Hailee Nicole & Travis Raper of Louisville, Ky., Alyssa Dawn Farmer & Michael Raines of Louisville, Ky., Sara Mckenlee Pennington of Corbin and  Ethan Drake Pennington of Corbin; two Great-grandsons: Landon and Dawson of Marietta, Ga.; Brothers: Charles Pennington and Norma, Earl Pennington and Mary, Walter Pennington and Hettie Lou, and Kenneth Pennington and Shelby; Sisters: Amy Combs, Dandridge, TN, Ethel Parks, Corbin, and Nadine Carr, Corbin; Sister-In-Law: Ann Vermillion, Corbin; and a multitude of Nieces, Nephews and Cousins.
He was preceded in death by: Father, Link Pennington Sr.;    Mother, Lettie Pennington; Siblings: Cloteen Pennington, Evan Pennington, Link Pennington Jr., and Harold Pennington; Father-in-Law, William (Bill) Greene; Mother-in-Law, Flossie McKeehan Greene; and Brother-in-Law, Robert (Bob) "Moe" Greene.
Honorary Pallbearers will be: Julian Boggs, Dr. Frank Catron, Randy Hall,Robert (Bob) Johnson, Dr. Richard Park,  John Warren Jr., and Harold Worley.
Visitation will be held from 1:00 pm Saturday, June 30, at Central Baptist Church, until the Celebration of Life Service at 3:00 pm. Officiating will be Rev. Ron Green, Rev. Bobby Joe Eaton, and Dr. Frank Catron.
Memorial contributions may be made to Central Baptist Church, the American Lung Association, or the Corbin Backpack Program.
