George Greene, Jr. age 67 of Gray, passed away on Friday February 9, 2007 at his home.
He was born on March 11, 1939 in Calvin, KY the Son of the late George David Greene and Mary Jane Miracle Greene. He was retired Staff Sergeant from US Army having served 27 1/2 years including serving in Vietnam; and he was a Baptist by Faith.
George was a member of the Cumberland Valley Masonic Lodge #751 in Gray, Venus Chapter of the Eastern Star in Williamsburg; Oleika Temple Shrine and The Scottish Rites both in Lexington.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his First Wife, Nora Edna Thompson Greene; Son, Terry Wayne Greene, and two Sisters, Shelby Jean Hembree and Ethel Thompson.
He is survived by his wife Brenda Greene; Three Sons, Homer Greene and wife Anna of Gray, Darryl Greene and wife Linda of Atlanta, GA, and David Greene and wife Kathy of Corbin; Grandchildren, Dusty, Terry, Rusty, Charlie, Nora, and Mary Beth Greene; Sisters, Irene Cardwell Skeens, Beulah and Finley Charles, Abby and Ed Carroll, and Sue Ballou; Step Children, Brian Hatfield, Shannon Hatfield, and Amy Joseph.
Funeral service will be on Tuesday February 13, 2007 at 1pm at the Vankirk-Grisell Funeral Home with Rev. Paul Gray officiating. Burial will follow in the Locust Grove Cemetery in Keavy with Military Service by VFW Post #1410 in Corbin. Pall bearers will be Homer Greene, Dustin Greene, Terry Greene, David Greene, Rusty Greene, Darryl Greene, and Chase Fuston.
Visitation will be on Monday February 12th from 6-9pm at the Vankirk-Grisell Funeral Home with Masonic Service at 8pm by the Cumberland Valley Masonic Lodge #751.
