Geraldine Ann Murphy

Geraldine Ann Murphy, age 81, of Elizabethtown, KY, formerly of Corbin, KY, passed away on Monday, February 19, 2018.
She was born in Newark, New Jersey in 1936 to the late Edward Henneberry and Anna Moravec Henneberry.  She graduated from Montclair Teacher’s College in 1958 with a degree in history.  In 1960, Geraldine married 2nd Lieutenant William F. Murphy.  During their marriage, they lived at numerous military bases in the United States and Germany, before settling in Corbin.
While in Corbin, she was an active member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, taught catechism classes, served in the Legion of Mary, and supported Lenten fish fries.  Throughout her life, Geraldine always gave to others.  In addition to raising her five children, she was also an elementary and high school teacher.  While teaching high school English at St. Camillus High School, she established a Shakespeare Club to share her love of literature with high school students.
In addition to her parents, Geraldine was preceded in death by her Husband, William Francis Murphy; Sons, William F. Murphy Jr., and Michael G. Murphy.
She is survived by her Daughters, Patricia M. Grudzielanek and husband Donald of Louisville, Kathleen Murphy of Elizabethtown, and Gerry Anne Murphy of Louisville; Daughter-in-law, Belen Murphy; Grandchildren, Michele A. Grudzielanek Wilson and husband Nicholas, and Stephanie Grudzielanek Metten and husband Christian; one great-grandchild; and a Sister, Frances Henneberry.
Funeral liturgy with Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 am on Monday, February 26, 2018 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Corbin.  Burial will follow in Pine Hill Cemetery in Corbin.
Visitation will be on Sunday, February 25th from 6-9pm at the Vankirk-Grisell Funeral Home, 607 Master Street, Corbin, KY, where messages may be written to the family at vankirkgrisellfuneralhome.com
