Harold L. Gant, 88, of Corbin passed away Friday, January 2, 2015 at Continue Care Hospital.
Born in Corbin, he was a son of the late W. G. and Nannie Hinkle Gant. He was also predeceased by his wife Mildred Smith Gant, an infant son, a brother William Gant, Jr., and sisters Virginia Duncan, Deanne Johnson, and Annabelle Byrley.
Harold is survived by his daughter Vicki Gant Kinsel and her husband Wayne, and a grandson Chris Kinsel, all of Corbin.
Harold served in the U.S. Navy during World War II where he witnessed the first atomic bomb explosion. Later he joined the National Guard and retired as Colonel after 33 years. He graduated from the Command and General Staff School of the War College of the U.S. Army, and had received the Legion of Merit award.
Locally he was the first Director of the Corbin Housing Authority and was Elder Emeritus at First Christian Church.
Visitation will begin at 11am Monday at First Christian Church. The funeral will follow at 1pm with John Gill and Rev. Ronnie Mitchell officiating.
Burial will be at Pine Hill Cemetery with military honors.
Honorary pallbearers will be Paul Jones, Bob Terrell, Baker Reasor, Bob Lockhart, Archie Powers, Larry Adams, Willard McBurney, Bruce Hodge, and John Baker.
Memorials are suggested to the Loyal Sons Sunday School Class at the Church.
