James Garfield Smith, age 77, of Orlando, FL, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 2, 2014.
He was born the son of Charlie and Ethel (Williams) Smith on August 31, 1936, in Barbourville, KY. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Edward Smith, and sisters Edna Steele, Doris Murdock, Millie Campbell, Roberta Smith and Tracie Smith.
He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years Zesta (Scalf) Smith; children: Cathy (Edwin) Ayache of Orlando, Florida; Joni Smith of Houston, Texas; and Kelly (John) Bass of Blue Bell, Pennsylvania; grandchildren: Alexandra and Danielle Ayache, and Katie and Madison Bass; Sisters: Georgia Hix, Cecil Haynes, and Verl Wyatt and husband William; Brother-in-law, William M. Scalf; Sisters-in-law: Leota S. Abdou, Debbie Midden, and Vivian Smith; and by beloved numerous nieces and nephews.
Garfield served his country with the United States Army. He was retired from Disneyworld in Orlando, Florida. Garfield always knew he was blessed with the love of his family and friends and will be deeply missed.
Visitation for Mr. James Garfield Smith will be held on Tuesday, May 6, 2014 from 6-8pm at the Vankirk-Grisell Funeral Home in Corbin. Burial will be a private service for the family, Wednesday, May 7, in the Gray Cemetery, with William H. Wyatt officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
