James Monroe Jones Jr., 80, passed away on Sunday, August 24, 2008 at Knox County Hospital.
Born in Blackwater in Laurel County, he was the son of the later James Jones and Jane Sasser Jones. He was a saw mill laborer at Forrest Products, and was Pentecostal by faith.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Nellie Napier Jones; half-brother, Jim T. McFadden; brother, Patton Earl Jones; two sisters, Sally Jones Shively and Eva Jones; and special cousin and caregiver for more than 30 years, Everett Lee Carter.
He is survived by his brother, Calvin Jones of Carvin Hill, Alabama; sister, Martha Smith of Carvin Hill, Alabama; cousins, Willie Carter of Georgia, Carolyn Roberts of Corbin, Don Carter of Boston, KY, Louise Carter of Corbin, Patricia Potter of Woodbine, Dale Carter of Boston, KY, and Jason Wood of Corbin.
Funeral services will be held at 2 pm Wed., August 27, at Vankirk-Grisell Funeral Home with Bro. Jerry Setser and Bro. Kenny Johnson officiating. Burial will be in the Garland Cemetery in Knox County.
The family will receive friends from 6-9 pm Tuesday at the Vankirk-Grisell Funeral Home.
