Jennings Arliss Sears

May 27, 1934 — January 16, 2022

Jennings Arliss Sears of Corbin passed away at his second home in Lawrenceville, Georgia on January 16, 2022.

Arliss was born May 27, 1934 in Alva, Kentucky to the late William C. and Zelpha (Elliott) Sears.

After graduating from Lynn Camp High School in 1952, Arliss joined the United States Marine Corps. On the day of his graduation from boot camp, his CO pronounced them the luckiest of recruits as the Armistice Agreement between the US and North Korea was signed and the fighting stopped twelve hours later. After serving his time on a flight line in Japan, he returned to the US and hitch-hiked home to Kentucky so he could pocket the bus fare the Marine Corps had given him. Arliss then attended Morehead State University. Deciding college wasn’t for him, he began driving over-the-road for Mayflower Moving Company. After that he returned again to Kentucky and went to work for the railroad. First he worked with Norfolk Southern and then on to the L&N, retiring from CSX in 1996.

In addition to his parents, Arliss was preceded in death by his brother, John Henry Sears.

Arliss is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years Rebecca Blanton Sears and their children William Elliot Sears and his wife Sue, Sharon Sears Clowdus and her husband Mark and Johnny Sears. Also his sister-in-law Jean Disney Sears, niece Virginia Ann Brown and her husband Bill, their children and grandchildren; a son, Ronny Frazier and his wife Darena, his children and grandchildren.

Visitation will be at Vankirk-Grisell Funeral Home, Saturday, September 17th, from 2 PM to 4 PM with a memorial service at 4 PM. There will be no graveside service.
