Jerry G. Tompkins

Jerry G. Tompkins, 83, of Corbin passed away Friday, February 4, 2022 at Baptist Health Corbin. A Corbin native, he was a son of the late George and Vera Lois Cobb Tompkins. Brothers Paul and Billie Tompkins also preceded him in death. Jerry was a veteran of service in the U.S. Air Force and member of the West Corbin Baptist Church. He had been self-employed as an outboard motor mechanic and enjoyed fishing. Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Emma Jean Tompkins; a son Glenn Tompkins and daughter Karen Messer; seven grandchildren: Gina Barajas (Freddy Cruz), Amanda Peavley (Steven Peavley), Rachel Hubbard (Jacob Hubbard), Langdon Messer, Emily Messer, Erica Tipton, and Cameron Collier; eight great grandchildren: America Barajas, Graciela Barajas, Xander Cruz, Nick Hart, Abigail Peavley, Jeremiah Peavley, Abigail Bell, and Lucas Hubbard; several nieces, nephews, and other family members; and a special friend Russell Smith. Jerry's visitation will begin at 12 noon Wednesday at Vankirk-Grisell Funeral Home. His funeral will follow at 1:00 pm with Bro. Albert Jones officiating. Burial will be at Locust Grove Cemetery with military honors by the Keavy D.A.V. Chapter 158. Memorials are suggested to West Corbin Baptist Church.
