Jerry Lee Poynter

Jerry Lee Poynter, 74, passed away on Monday, March 9, 2015, at Baptist Health Corbin.
Born in Corbin, he was the son of the late Siler Lee Poynter and Florence Arnold Poynter. He attended First Baptist Church and was a veteran of the Army Reserve.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Harold Poynter; brother-in-law, E.R. Hopper, Jr.; and sister-in-law, Frances Poynter.
He is survived by his wife Billie Jean Poynter; children: Jenny Storms and husband Bill, Amy Helton and husband Joey, and Scott Poynter; grandchildren: Jacob Storms, Adam Storms, Anna Storms, Joley Helton, Jill Helton, Jeremiah Poynter, and Anthony Poynter; sister, Shirley Roaden and husband Leland; brother, Alden Poynter and wife Mossie; several nieces and nephews; mother-in-law, Agnes H. Young; sisters-in-law, Phyllis Hopper and Sandy Poynter; and brother-in-law, Daniel Hopper and wife Susan.
He started a lifelong career in plumbing when he was a teenager working with his father. In the early 1970's, joined by his brothers, they formed Poynter Plumbing Supply which he would later solely acquire and operate for 34 years as a family-operated business. He especially loved going the extra mile for his customers even after retiring.
Upon his retirement, not one to sit idle, he enjoyed traveling, gardening, working on projects, and he was especially devoted to his family.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests gifts in his memory to First Baptist Church of Corbin or the Corbin Public Library.
Funeral service will be at 6:00 pm Thursday, March 12, at Vankirk-Grisell Funeral Home with Rev. Paul Sims and Rev. Chris Romines officiating.
He will be buried at the Worley Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 3-6 pm on Thursday, March 12, at the funeral home.
