John Robert "Bob" Martin, 77, passed away Wednesday, October 20, 2004 at his residence in Winchester.
Born January 2, 1927 in Muskegon, Michigan, he moved to Corbin in 1989 after retiring from the Elizabeth Street Foundry in Chicago, Illinois. He worked as a security guard for Storm Security in London and Godsey Security in Corbin. He was a U.S. Army veteran having served in WWII. He believed in the Pentecostal faith.
Preceding him in death were his parents, John and Alice Hoskins Martin; a son, Johnny Ray Martin; and a brother, Louis Martin.
He is survived by his wife Opal Lunsford Martin; one son, David Martin of Tennessee; one step-son, Mickey Poland of Elkins, West Virginia; three grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and friends who mourn his passing.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1:30 pm Friday, October 22, 2004 at the Vankirk-Grisell Funeral Home with Pastor Bobby Castle officiating. Burial will be in the Rest Haven Cemetery in Corbin with military graveside services. His nephews will serve as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 9:00 pm Thursday at the funeral home.
