John Robert Mabry

John Robert Mabry, former Mayor of Corbin, passed away on Sunday, July 9, 2006 at his home, one day short of his 94th birthday.
Born on July 10, 1912 in Mt. Vernon, Illinois, he was the son of the late Robert F. Mabry and Florence E. Neaville Mabry.
John was a graduate of the Gallagher School of Accounting and Business Administration. He spent his entire working years in the manufacturing field; interrupted only by seven years spent at the Savannah Ordinance Depot where he served as Chief of Storage and Demolition during World War II. John spent his last 27years of career work with the former National Standard Company in Corbin serving his last nine years as Personnel Manager.
John's civic career was highlighted by serving as Corbin's Mayor from 1970-1974. In addition to being Mayor, John was active in the Corbin Rotary Club which he joined in 1962. While in the club, John received the Paul Harris Award and established the John Mabry Scholarship Fund. John was active with the Corbin Senior Citizens where he served as Treasurer since 1976. John was a former Scout Master, and was a Charter member of the Dudes and Dolls Square Dance Club in Corbin where he served as its second President.
John was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Corbin where he was an instrumental benefactor for the building of the new Methodist Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Bonnie Dee Mabry, and a Niece, Barbara Jaffe.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy "Dot" Mabry; a Daughter, Cheryl Dee Mabry of Chetek, Wisconsin; Two Sisters, Arlene Jaffe of Illinois and Louise Baron of NC.; two Nephews, David Jaffe and Robert Alexander Baron; Brother-in-law, William Woods; and a Sister-in-law, Marilu Johnson.
Funeral service will be conducted at 1pm Wednesday at the First United Methodist Church in Corbin, with Don Robinson, Rev. William Reed and Rev. Tim Thompson officiating. Burial will follow in Cumberland Memorial Gardens in Lily, Kentucky.
Visitation will be from 6-9pm on Tuesday at the First United Methodist Church and on Wednesday from 11am until the time of the service at 1pm at the First United Methodist Church.
