Joyce Marion Freeman Wells

Joyce Marion Freeman Wells, age 83, of Corbin, Kentucky, passed away on Friday January 20, 2023, at her home in Corbin.

Born in Price, Utah, she was a daughter of the late Arnold Skinner and Willda Laird Skinner.  Joyce was a retired cafeteria worker from Corbin Independent School District and was a member of First Baptist Church in Corbin. Among her many enjoyments in life were horseback riding and trick riding, playing softball, and bowling, where she won many awards, including bowling a perfect 300 game. Joyce was gifted seamstress who had her own line of clothing. She was a lover of the outdoors, and enjoyed fishing, and hunting.  Joyce was active in many local organizations including past president of the American Legion Post #88 Womens Auxiliary, the American Legion Funeral Honor Guard, member of the Order of Eastern Star, Dudes and Dolls Square Dancing Club, Corbin Band Boosters, past President of the Corbin Womens Club, and Homemakers Club, and for many years she served as a Whitley County Election Officer.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John C. Freeman, and by a sister, Karma.

She is survived by her husband, Lonnie B. Wells Jr., children, Vanoy Freeman Bruce (Bryan), Karrie Freeman Uncapher (Tim), April Freeman Alford (Bill), and Susen Freeman Wilson (Tony), brother, Phill Skinner, grandchildren, Bryan James Bruce III, Christopher Bruce, Michael Bruce, Mike Uncapher, Lucia Uncapher, Steve Uncapher, Dan Uncapher, John Alford, Jessica Alford, and Joseph Alford, great grandchildren, Brayden, Collin, Bentley, Selene, Davian, Kieran, Colton, Hunter, and Annabelle, and by several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be from 12-2pm on Tuesday January 24, 2023, at the Vankirk-Grisell Funeral Home, where her funeral service will be held at 2pm with Rev. Paul Sims officiating.

Her burial will be private.

Joyce's family wish to thank her many caregivers, including Bluegrass Hospice, Mollee, Brandi, and Donna.
