JR Williams, 88, of Corbin, passed away on Wed., Dec. 17, 2008, at the Oak Tree Hospital.
Born in Illinois, he was the son of the late Fred and Etta Perryman Williams. He had worked as a foreman at National Standard and was owner/operator of JR's Market in Corbin. He was a US Army veteran serving in WWII and was recipient of two bronze stars, good conduct medal, and a Bronze Star Medal.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Kenneth Schaff.
He is survived by his wife, Irene Barton Williams; three children and seven grandchildren: Shirley Taylor and husband Wayne and their children Michael and Christine Maxwell, and Barbara and Rodger Coffey; Richard Williams and wife Kathy and their children Tina and Michael Carnes and Julie Williams; and David Williams and wife Mary and their children Amy and Jimmy Galindo, Nicole Williams and Holly Williams; 13 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Fred Barton and David Barton; and a sister, Judy Clark, all who mourn his passing.
Funeral services will be held at 2 pm Saturday, Dec. 20, at the Vankirk-Grisell Funeral Home with Rev. Benny Bush officiating. Burial will follow in the Rest Haven Cemetery with military graveside rites by VFW Post 1410.
The family will receive friends from 6-9 pm Friday at Vankirk-Grisell Funeral Home.
