Juanita Collins

Juanita Felts Collins, age 91, of Corbin, KY left her earthly home for her heavenly home on June 1, 2022. Juanita was born in Corbin on January 6, 1931, the daughter of Oscar and Hattie Felts. She was a 1950 graduate of Lily High School and lived all but two years of her life in Corbin. She married Hargis Collins in 1953, and they had three children together. Juanita leaves a legacy of love for God, family, and servanthood to others. She was a steadfast Christian lady devoted to her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and a member of Central Baptist Church in Corbin for 65 years. She lived her life for her family and loved them with all her heart. She was a pro at remembering birthdays and never failed to acknowledge them as long as she was able! Juanita was known for her friendly, humorous spirit, her compassion for others, her wonderful cooking, and so many other things, they can’t all be listed. She was a very social person who enjoyed being with family and friends, no matter the occasion. She loved to talk and laugh and had the ability to create laughter without even trying. She was always visiting and helping others as long as she was able to do so. It was commonplace for her to visit and cook for people in her early 80’s! Everything she cooked was delicious. She was her own worst critic when it came to her cooking. If it wasn’t perfect, she would tell you her problem with it! Family favorites were corn muffins, mac ‘n cheese, and anything with bacon grease and butter—which was everything! Juanita was preceded in death by her parents, seven siblings, husband Hargis Collins, a daughter, Lisa Collins, and a grandson, Ryan Collins. She is survived by a son Dennis Collins (Karen), a daughter Sandra Hopkins (Durk), grandsons: Reggie Collins (Kelly) and Brandon Hopkins, granddaughters: Lauren Carney (Paul), Ashley Horn (Chris), Ali Collins Bunch (Josh); six great grandchildren: Andrew Carney, Elizabeth Carney, Parker Collins, Collin Horn, Olivia Collins, and Remi Collins, and several nieces and nephews, and other family and friends to mourn her passing. Visitation will be held from 1:00-3:00pm on Saturday, June 4, 2022, at Vankirk-Grisell Funeral Home, where her funeral service will follow at 3:00pm with Rev. Josh Pollitt and Rev. Sean Disney officiating. Following the service, she will be laid to rest in Felts Chapel Cemetery in Corbin, KY, with Glenn Felts, Jerry Felts, Reggie Collins, Paul Carney, Johnny Collins, and Durk Hopkins serving as pallbearers.
