Julia Neal, 81,of the Cumberland Falls Highway, Corbin, passed away Monday, April 5th, at her daughter's home.
Julia was born October 7, 1922 in Gault City, Florida to the late Julius W. Hattaway and Rosa Lee Leighton Hattaway. She was a member of Greenland Baptist Church where she was active in the Joyful Hearts Group. She was a retired cook working at the Holiday Inn, then the Ribeye Family Steak House, and finally retiring from the former Reno's Steakhouse in Corbin.
Julia was a life member of the DAV Auxiliary, a member of the Daughters of America Unity Council #77 for 36 years, Queen Victoria Court #20, Order of the Amaranth, Eastern Star Venus Chapter #179, and a member of the Railroad Retirement Association.
Julia was preceded in death by Husbands W.F. Gilbert Jr., Paris Neal and John E. Schweingruber Jr., by two Sons Jack Shannon Neal PFC 1st Class and Jimmy Neal, by her Parents Julius W. Hattaway and Rosalie Leighton Hattaway Bagley, her sister Edna Green and brother Virgil Hattaway.
She is survived by Sons George Neal of Corbin, Frank Wayne Gilbert of St. Bernard, Louisiana, and Juan Gilbert and fiancee Millie of Milton, Florida; Daughters Jean Barton and husband David of Corbin and Margie Hall and fiance Michael Vito of Chicago; 16 Grandchildren survive: Sherrie Gilbert & Frankie Gilbert of Chicago; Jessica & Jason Gilbert of St. Bernard, Louisiana; Kimberly Beardon of Milton, Florida; John Gilbert of McComb, Mississippi; Jack Gilbert of Milton, Florida; Cheryl (Tim) Cox of Dallas, Texas; David Barton of Madisonville, Kentucky; Jimbo (Michelle) Barton of Corbin; Shannon, Julie and Randy Napier of Atlanta, Georgia; Amy (Craig) Lewis of Nashville, Tennessee; Brittany and Whitney Neal of Corbin. 21 Great-Grandchildren; Brother Joe Hattaway of Jacksonville, Florida; Sisters Ophelia Stewart of Pensacola, Florida and Eunice Yingling and husband Ken of Battle Creek; Numerous Nieces, Nephews and Friends; and Special Son Roy Peek and wife Kathy of Corbin.
Funeral Service is 1 pm Wednesday at Vankirk-Grisell Funeral Home chapel with Rev. Joe Samples and Rev. Herschel Walker officiating. Burial will follow in the Corinth Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 pm Tuesday at the Vankirk-Grisell Funeral Home with Order of Amaranth rites at 7 pm Tuesday at the funeral home.
