Kathleen A. Zanio

d. May 7, 2021

Kathleen A. Zanio, age 77, of Gray, Kentucky, passed away on Friday May 7, 2021 at the University of Tennessee Medical Center. Born in Kenosha, WI, daughter of the late Walter R. Zanio and Alice Gregorski Zanio, Kathy attended St. Casimir Elementary School and St. Joseph High School in Kenosha. She then entered the School Sisters of St. Francis, and graduated from Alverno College in Milwaukee with a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education. From 1967-1969 she spent summers in Williamsburg, KY and then moved permanently to Kentucky with three other School Sisters of St. Francis. While in Kentucky, she developed and directed the Williamsburg Adult Learning Center and the Senior Citizens Center. In 1979 Kathy moved back to Milwaukee and worked at the Justine and Peace Center. Then in 1999 Kathy moved back to Kentucky and after retirement she volunteered at the Williamsburg Girl's Ranch and the Corbin Presbyterian Church Food Pantry where she and the other "pantry ladies" became life-long friends. She loved being outside working on the land, growing vegetables, and watching the birds. Kathy would want to be remembered as someone who fought for justice for all, especially those most in need. Kathleen is survived by her life partner, Kathleen Anne Crossen of Gray, KY; uncle, Leonard Zanio of Milwaukee, WI; brothers, Kenneth Zanio (Carol) of Lake Forest, CA, and Robert Zanio of Chicago, IL; nephews, Kenneth Zanio Jr., Michael Zanio, and Scott Zanio; and by niece, Rachel Zanio. Services will be private for the family under the direction of the Vankirk-Grisell Funeral Home in Corbin, KY. In lieu of flowers, be kind to someone in Kathy's memory.
