Kenneth A. Masters, age 81, of Corbin, passed away on Friday, October 1, 2004 at the Rockcastle Hospital.
He was born on March 13, 1923 in Rockcastle County to the late Alonzo Masters and Susie Smith Masters; He was a graduate of Union College and continued his graduate work at Union College, Eastern Kentucky University, and at the University of Kentucky. He was a retired School Teacher in Laurel County having taught for 35 years.
He was an Army Veteran of World War II serving in the Italian Campaign in North Africa under the direction of General Mark Clark.
He was a member of the 17th Street Christian Church in Corbin.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by Two Brothers, Phillip and Everett Masters; a Brother- In-Law, L.B. "Pete" Petrey and a Sister-In-Law, Jean Masters.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Ruth McVay Masters; a Son Gary Masters and his wife Donna; a Daughter, Edna Fay Wilson and special friend Willie Mitchell; a Brother, Homer Masters; a Sister, Virginia Petrey; Brother-In-Law Virgil McVay all of Corbin; Four Sisters-in-Law, Rosa Lee Masters, Bobbie Ann Masters, and Karen Carroll and husband Troy all of Corbin, and Imogene Roaden of London; Two Grandchildren, Adam Bryant and April Chadwell; 5 Great Grandchildren, Brittany and Kendra Bryant, Kathy and William Kenneth Chadwell, and Derek Mosely; Several Nieces and Nephews.
Funeral service will be held on Monday, October 4, 2004, at 2:00pm at the Vankirk-Grisell Funeral Home with Bro. Doug Martin and Bro. Ronnie Blevins officiating.
Burial will follow in Cumberland Memorial Gardens at Lily, with Ronnie Byrley, Willie Mitchell, Rob and Stuart Stansbury, Rodney Combs, Eric Malloy, Thomas Stradley, Troy and Jerrod Carroll, Eugene Sharp, Rick Penny and John Couch serving as Pall Bearers. Honorary Pall Bearers will be the Elders and Deacons of the 17th Street Christian Church.
Visitation will be on Sunday from 6-9pm at the Vankirk-Grisell Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions by made to the 17th Street Christian Church, Building Fund, 200 17th Street, Corbin, KY 40701.
