Layton Lay, 76, of Corbin, passed away on Tuesday, November 25, 2014, at his home after a brief battle with cancer.
Born in Corbin, he was the son of the late Wayne O. Lay and Hazel Ray Lay. He was co-owner of Hopper Graybeal Auto Parts for 30 years. Layton lived and loved his family and enjoyed spending time with them on Laurel Lake until his health declined. He was a member of West Corbin Baptist Church and was a U.S. Army veteran.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four sisters: Ruth Frakey, Jean Frances, Gerri Peluso, and Melba Bates.
Layton is survived by his wife of 54 years, Brenda Oaks Lay; son, Steven Lay of Corbin, and daughter, Angie Campbell (Tom) of Danville; four grandsons: Lance and Chaise Lay of Corbin and Dustin and Drew Campbell of Danville; three great-grandchildren: Kayla Lay and Ethan and Brooklynn Campbell. Also surviving is his sister, Opal Swanson of Tennessee; and two special nephews, Bill and Jerry Gregory of Ohio.
Funeral service for Layton will be at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 30, at Vankirk-Grisell Funeral Home with Rev. Jerry Combs officiating. Burial will be in the Rest Haven Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 1-3 pm Sunday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Hospice of the Bluegrass in Layton's memory.
