Libya J. "Libby" Hall

June 14, 1943 — June 14, 2016

Libya Jean Hall (Libby), 73, of The Villages, Florida, passed away peacefully at home on her birthday, June 14, 2016. She was born in Corbin, KY on June 14, 1943 to Pearl Sue Wright of Corbin and Cincinnati, OH, and Alva Chester Hall of Woodbine and Ft. Wayne, IN.
Libby was a 1961 graduate of Corbin High School. She enlisted in the Women’s Air Corps (WACs) immediately after high school and was stationed at many military bases in the U.S. and overseas. She served in the army for twenty years. Following her retirement as a Master Sergeant at age 38, she held civil service jobs for many years and enjoyed living in California, Kentucky, and Florida.
From an early age, Libby was a sports fan and loved watching and playing pickup games and also played organized softball in Corbin. That love continued throughout her life, and she especially enjoyed playing golf before and after retirement. As a child, she also showed a love of pets and frequently brought the neighbor’s cat home for her own.
Libby had a quick and infectious laugh that warmed all in her presence. She was a gentle soul and shared her love openly with family and friends, even when her opinions were pointed and direct.
Libby was preceded in death by her mother and father, and by close cousins Pamela Sue Eaton Enda (Bernard ‶Bernie″) of Cincinnati and Marquita Lynn Eaton Gabbard Bryan (James) of Corbin and Houston, TX.
She is survived by her long-time companion Florence E. Cook (‶Cookie″), precious dog Scruffy, half-sister Kathy Hall Bryant (Gary) of Corbin, other paternal half-siblings, and many maternal cousins: Kim Goodin Chaney (Donnie) of London, Donna Goodin Davis of Corbin, Logan Scott Wright (Verna) of Overland Park, KS, Sandy Wright Crider (F.G. ‶Buzz″) of Savannah, GA, Katie Murrell (Don) of Fairfield, OH, many other cousins in the Cincinnati area, and friends from The Villages and beyond.
Cremation was performed by Florida Cremation Society, The Villages, FL. With arrangements through Vankirk-Grisell Funeral Home, a military graveside memorial service will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, August 27, at the Wright family plot of Pine Hill Cemetery in Corbin. All are welcome.
