Lonnie B Wells Jr.

Lonnie B. Wells Jr, age 79, passed away on Sunday, January 22, 2023, in Corbin, Kentucky.

Born in Richmond, VA, he was a son of the late Lonnie B. Wells Sr. and Frances Elizabeth Smith Wells. Lonnie was the owner operator of Lon's Appliance and was a US Air Force Veteran of the Vietnam Era. Lonnie was an active member of the American Legion State Association, and with Fonzie Wilder Post #88 of the American Legion in Corbin. With the state he was a past state officer and past District Commander. During his time with Post #88, he was a former Post Commander and former Post Adjutant. Lonnie was also active with the American Legion Funeral Honor Guard team.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce Marion Freeman Wells on January 20, 2023, and by a son, Robert Gene Wells.

Lonnie is survived by his son, Michael Wells, brothers, Bill Wells (Mary), Wayne Wells (Gerri), and Mike Wells (Peggy), sisters, Debra Petrey, Karen Burdine, and Kim Swafford (Jack), grandchildren, Ginger White and Amber Damron, four great grandchildren, and by numerous nieces, nephews, family, and friends who will mourn his passing, including special friend and caregiver, Anne Thompson, and a special thank you to Hospice of the Bluegrass and the home helpers.

The family will receive friends from 6-8pm on Wednesday January 25, 2023, at the Vankirk-Grisell Funeral Home, where his funeral service will be held at 2pm on Thursday January 26th, with Rev. Bobby Joe Eaton officiating.

Burial will follow in the Corinth Cemetery in Corbin, KY, with military honors by the American Legion Post #88.
