Lucy Hammons

Lucy Hammons, 104, passed away on Monday, Jan. 28, 2008 at the Christian Health Center.
Born in Knox County, she was the daughter of the late Joseph G. and Rosa Lee Elliott. She was a homemaker and a member of the Brummett Church of Christ.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Howard Hammons; four children, Morene Hammons, Joe Hammons, Loarn Hammons and York Hammons; six brothers, Robert, Raymond, Matthew, Elze, Joseph and Owen Elliott; and three sisters, Katie, Ruby and Oalah Elliott.
She is survived by six grandchildren, Joetta and Roy Harbin of Corbin, Pauline Howard of Dunlap, Tennessee, Ann Lucas of Ohio, Debbie Lyons of Ohio, David Hammons of Louisville, and Dennis Hammons of Louisville; seven great-grandchildren, Mike Harbin and wife Joyce of Corbin, Richard Harbin of Orlando, Paul Howard of Dunlap, Tennessee, David Howard of Dunlap, Tennessee, Paula Lucas of Ohio, Matthew Lucas of Ohio and Sarah Lyons of Ohio; 14 great-great-grandchildren including Brandon and Chelcey of Corbin; one sister, Eulene Walker of Corbin; and several nieces, nephews, family and friends who mourn her passing.
Funeral services will be held at 7 pm Thursday, Jan. 31, 2008, at the Vankirk-Grisell Funeral Home with Rev. Bobby Joe Eaton officiating. Burial will be in the Alva Memorial Gardens in Black Star, Kentucky on Friday. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends from 4-7 pm Thursday at Vankirk-Grisell Funeral Home.
