Luther H. "Junior" Gaddis, Jr., 66, of Gray, passed away Wednesday, December 14, 2005 at the Oak Tree Hospital in Corbin.
Born November 16, 1939 in Knox County, he was the son of the late Luther H. Gaddis, Sr. and Ottie Hughes Gaddis.
Mr. Gaddis was a retired Principal and Educator for 36 years with the Knox County Schools. He was a member and Elder of the Corbin Presbyterian Church. He was Treasurer and Captain with the West Knox Volunteer Fire Department; Past Master with the Cumberland Valley Masonic Lodge #751, Past District Deputy Grand Master, member of the Oleika Shrine in Lexington; Scottish Rites and 32nd Degree Mason; Commondary of the Knights of Templar. He was also a member of the Sons of the Confederate Veterans Association, Private E.F. Arthur Camp #1783 and active in Civil War Reenactments. Mr. Gaddis was a Kentucky Colonel and an avid Military Historian and traveled extensively.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Herbert H. Gaddis and William H. Gaddis; and one niece, Ann Gaddis Black.
He is survived by his wife Betty Gaddis; a sister, Beth Dickson Moore and husband Gene of New Lebanon, Ohio; nephews, Herbert Gaddis Jr. and wife Joyce, Henry Gaddis and wife Brenda, David Gaddis and wife Dorothy, Larry Moore and wife Connie, and Garry Moore and wife Jane; nieces, Marie Gaddis Gregory and husband Jim and Wilhelmina Gaddis Willis and husband Tim; and a special friend, Kenneth Frazier.
Funeral service will be at 3 pm Saturday, December 17, 2005 at the Corbin Presbyterian Church, 601 Master Street in Corbin. Masonic services will be conducted by the Cumberland Valley Lodge #751 of Gray. Burial will be in the Gray Cemetery.
Serving as pallbearers will be Richard Gaddis, Jason Gaddis, Curtis Willis, John Herbert Allen, Michael Gaddis and Jim Gregory.
Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Sons of the Confederate Veterans Association and his traveling buddies.
The family will receive friends for visitation on Saturday from 12 Noon until 3 pm at the Corbin Presbyterian Church.
The Vankirk-Grisell Funeral Home is in charge of all arrangements.
