Marion Colleen Davis Martin

January 20, 1929 — April 3, 2022

Marion Colleen Davis Martin, age 93, of Lexington, KY, passed from this life to her eternal home with Jesus on Sunday April 3, 2022 in Apex, NC.
Born on January 20, 1929, in Knox County, KY to the late Charlie and Mona Dugger Davis, Colleen was preceded in death by her husband Harold Ray Martin, her brother Jack Davis, and sisters Glenda Fackler and Margaret Davis.
Colleen grew up in Corbin, attended Asbury College for oneyear, married Harold and began their life together in Louisville, later in Allen Park, Michigan. Being a product of the depression greatly influenced her frugal ways, but she was also very giving and generous with her time, energy, and resources. Colleen's love for her family and Lord led her to volunteer in many different ways. She served in three churches, Glen Eden, Friendship and Mt. Vernon Baptist Church, over the span of 20 years as church hostess, choir member, Sunday School teacher, WMU member, church cook, and made sure there was a flower arrangement in the front of the sanctuary every Sunday morning. Her desire to serve the Lord and her love for senior adults also took her to The Baptist Center in downtown Detroit where she served as Coordinator of the Senior Adult Wednesday Chapel Service and Fellowship Luncheons for many years.
After a short time living in Mobile, AL, she and Harold retired in Lexington. Colleen was an active member of Immanuel Baptist Church, the JOY Sunday School class, the Pendley WMU, and served as a greeter on Sunday mornings. She also supported the Feed the Hungry Ministry in the Elkhorn Baptist Association for many years and her love for children and sharing of the gospel also led her to pack many Operation Christmas Child shoeboxes for Samaritan's Purse.
When she wasn't volunteering, you could find her shopping for bargains, sewing, weeding, arranging flowers from her garden and cheering for her Wildcats.
Colleen is survived by her children, daughter Terri Martin Bradley (Phil) of Bardstown, KY, son Allen Ray Martin (Gerolynn) of Apex, NC, 4 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. She is also survived by two sisters, Wilma Wolf (Don) of Eustis, FL, Pat Cobb (James) of Somerset, brother Bill Davis (Mary) of Corbin and several nieces and nephews.
A service in Colleen's memory will take place at Vankirk-Grisell Funeral Home's Chapel in Corbin at 11am Saturday, April 9, with visitation beginning at 10am until the time of the service. Burial will take place at Resthaven Cemetery in Corbin. Rev. Dan Russell, Senior Adults Pastor at Immanuel, will be conducting the service. Pallbearers are Colleen's son Allen, son-in-law Phil Bradley, grandsons Evan Bradley, Nick Martin, Chris Martin, and nephew Mark Davis. Honorary pallbearers are her brother Bill Davis and brother-in-law James Cobb. As much as Colleen loved flowers, she would ask instead that donations be made to Operation Christmas Child, a ministry of Samaritan's Purse, to make an eternal difference in the life of a child.
