Marvin Cress

Marvin Cress, age 78, of Corbin, KY, passed away on Monday, December 23, 2024, at Baptist Health Corbin. 

Born in Hamilton, OH, he was the son of the late Cooney Cress and Lucy Spurlock Cress. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife, Shirley Dean Cress; and brothers, Jerry Cress, Ralph Cress, and Monte Carlo Cress. 

A humble individual, Marvin's life was a testament to quiet strength, kindness, and an unwavering commitment to his faith. As a dedicated highway engineer, he carved paths not only on land but in the hearts of all those who had the privilege to know him. Outside his profession, Marvin found solace in life's simple pleasures, like the challenge of crossword puzzles, which he solved with his wide vocabulary and sharp intellect.

His love for reading took him on countless adventures, while his passion for fishing and gardening often found him and his beloved wife, Shirley, sharing quiet, meaningful moments amidst nature. His dedication to his faith was evident in his role as a preacher, through which he touched numerous lives and shared his spiritual journey. Marvin's legacy of love, kindness, and faith lives on in his children and grandchildren. 

He is survived by his children, Marvin Cress, Jr. (Joyce), Kenneth Cress (Susie), and Cindy Nigro (Joe); grandchildren, George Cress, Danielle Cress, Katelyn Nigro, Nicholas Nigro, Renee Helton, Dylan Cress, Emily Cress, Heather Bush, and Jonathan Bush; great-grandchildren, Levi Cress, Liam Cress, and Ezra Helton; and by a host of family and friends. 

Visitation will be held from 12-2pm on Friday, December 27, 2024, at Vankirk-Grisell Funeral Home, where his funeral service will follow at 2pm with Rev. Luke Day and Rev. Ken Bolin officiating.
