Marvin Leroy Shollenberger, age 76, of Corbin, passed away on August 15, 2023, at his home.
Born in Detroit, MI on December 19, 1946, Lee spent his life in the loving embrace of his family and the service of his country and community. He resided in Corbin, Kentucky, where his loving spirit and enthusiastic outdoorsmanship left an indelible mark on all who knew him. As a Vietnam Era United States Marine Corps Veteran, Lee's bravery was only matched by his commitment to those he loved and served. Lee was awarded several medals for his military service including the Purple Heart Medal. His work in loss prevention at Wal-Mart, from which he retired, further established his dedication to his community.
Lee was a man who found joy in the simple pleasures of life. He cherished the great outdoors, finding solace in the rustle of leaves on a hiking trail or the gentle crackling of a bonfire, enjoyed best with a good whiskey in hand. His love for animals and the outdoors were passions he passed on to his family, leaving a legacy of shared interests and values. A proud member of the American Legion Post #88 Honor Guard, Marvin laid many of his brothers to rest with full honor and respect.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Melvin and Evelyn Platter Shollenberger, and two sons, Mark Shollenberger and Jeffrey Campbell.
Lee is survived by his loving wife, Jewel Sue Wilson, daughters, Michelle Ward (Curtis), Melissa Campbell (Greg Penning), and Melanie Campbell (Gerald Nash), ten glorious grandchildren, Brandon Proffit of South Carolina, Megan Bowerson of Michigan, Jesse Shollenberger of South Carolina, Justin Ward of Michigan, Dakota Joseph of Kentucky, Jared Ward of Virginia, Dylan Nash of Kentucky, Emilee Nash of Kentucky, Lillian Campbell-Mills of Michigan, and Mia Campbell-Mills of Michigan, six great grandchildren, and two special daughters-in-law, Jamie Mills and Melissa Shollenberger.
A memorial service will be held by the family at a later date with full military honors.
