Max York, age 86, of Lily, passed away on Thursday, December 15, 2011, at the Greg and Noreen Wells Hospice Care Center in Hazard, KY. He was born July 18, 1925, in Yancy, Kentucky. He was preceded in death by his father, Fred M. York; his mother, Mary Adkins York; and his brother, Donald York.
He was a veteran of WWII, 1st Marine Division,a retired Detroit Police officer, and 32 degree Mason. He provided for and protected his family and friends his entire life. He accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior and Lord.
He is survived by his wife, Lucy Imogene Pope York; two daughters, Mary Davis and husband Rev. Larry, and Susan Mitchell and husband Tim; six grandchildren, Melanie Snider, Joshua Jenkins and wife Pam, Benjamin Davis, Jacob Davis, Jennifer Smith and husband Emmitt, and Daniel Smith; seven great-grandchildren;and brother, Paul York and wife Inez of Wyandotte, Michigan, all who mourn his passing.
His final gift is to donate his body to the University of Kentucky College of Medicine.
Memorial services will be Sunday, December 18, 2011, at 1:00 pm at Vankirk-Grisell Funeral Home with Rev. Larry Davis officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Greg and Noreen Wells Hospice Care Center, 101 Dennis Sandlin MD Cove, Hazard, KY 41701, or First Baptist Church of Corbin, KY.
