Mazie Mitchell Adkins, 82 years of age, of Corbin, and formerly of Woodbine, passed away on Monday, November 22, 2010 at Baptist Regional Medical Center.
Mazie was a loving wife and mother having worked 12 years at Elicon, Inc. She was a member of Faber Methodist Church. Mazie was born to Alonzo and Nola Mitchell of Faber, Kentucky, July 17, 1928.
She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Quinton Mitchell and Robert Mitchell of Corbin, and three sisters, Lily Mitchell, Lula Smith, and Billie Frances Gilbert, with one living sister, Oneida Eaton.
She was also preceded in death by her loving husband of 52 years, Ulys Grant Adkins, Jr. and one son, Harold Gene Adkins.
Mazie leaves behind to mourn their loss but celebrate her new life with the Lord, two daughters, Emma R. Colgan and husband Bill of Cincinnati, Ohio and Shirley J. Farris and husband Earl of Corbin. Lovingly known as "Mamaw Mazie", she had seven grandchildren that she shared her humor and discipline with: Carl Anthony "Tony" Davenport and wife Angie, Tonya Renee Bittner and husband Chris, Christopher Grant Adkins, Gina Lynn Adkins and Gwynne Elaine Adkins, April Michelle Kirby and Stephen Craig Kirby and wife Scarlet; six great-grandchildren she lived to love: Kayla and Shelby Davenport, Elizabeth "Libby" Allen, Seth Kirby, and Emma and Addison Bittner.
Visitation and Funeral service for Mazie Mitchell Adkins will be private at the request of the family.
The Vankirk-Grisell Funeral Home, 607 Master Street, Corbin, is serving the family.
