Medgitt 'Butch' Wood, Iii

Medgitt K. "Butch" Wood, III, 47, of Corbin, passed away Thursday, Feb. 2, 2006 at the U.K. Medical Center in Lexington.
He was a veteran in the U.S. Army with four years of active duty, two of which were overseas in Europe, and he was in the reserves for six years. He served as a drill sergeant.
He was preceded in death by his father Medgitt Wood Jr.; his step-father Dennis Noe; grandparents, Mr. & Mrs. Medgitt and Garnett Wood, Sr. and Earnest Callihan; his step-daughter, Megan Renee Smith; and a special cousin, James Lee Wood Jr.
He is survived by his wife Lisa Williams Wood; mother, Irene Noe; three sons, Medgitt K. (Bubba) Wood IV, Jason Wood and Jarrod Wood, all of Corbin; three step-sons, Ricky Smith, Shane Smith and Joshua Smith, all of Corbin; three brothers, William "Bill" Wood of Corbin, Phillip Wood of Ohio, and Matthew Wood of Alabama; five sisters, Joyce Wood and Polla Noe Fox of Corbin, Dawn Wood of Arizona, Denise Wood and April Wood of Alabama; special friends, Vicky Mills, Pam Smith, Brenda Jones, Barbara Denley and Betty Davis; and a host of family and friends, aunts, uncles and cousins who will mourn his passing.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 pm Monday, Feb. 6, 2006 at the Vankirk-Grisell Funeral Home chapel with Pastor Phillip Wynn officiating. Burial will follow at the Ryan Cemetery with military graveside rites by V.F.W. Post 1410.
Pallbearers will be Jeff Keith, Doug Keith, Ardy Claxton, Randy Helton, Billy Lowe, Mike Sears, Ron Smith and Bill Norman. Honorary Pallbearers will be Medgitt "Bubba" Wood IV, Jason and Jarrod Wood, Dale and Daniel Brown, Dillon and Joseph Wood, Jake Floyd and James Pace.
Visitation will be held from 6-9 pm Sunday, Feb. 5, at the Vankirk-Grisell Funeral Home.
