Melvin (M.C., Pap) Brown, 82, of Gray, passed away on Wednesday, July 16, 2008, at the Oak Tree Hospital in Corbin.
He was owner of Brown & Brown Masonry and was a member of Grays Baptist Church.
He was born July 9, 1926 in Knox County to the late Melvin Brown and Lillie Brown. He was also preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Myrtle Brown; a daughter-in-law, Bonnie Brown; three sisters, Candy Downs, Nellie Baker and Ellie Gambrel; and one brother, Rev. Ed Brown.
He is survived by his son, Clarence Brown and his wife Georgia of Gray; his daughter, Bobbie and husband Rev. Jim Cook of Gray; three grandsons, Rick, Todd and Delbert; six great-grandchildren; his sister, Rebecca Payne of Louisville; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other family and friends who mourn his passing.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Sunday, July 20, at the Vankirk-Grisell Funeral Home with Rev. Cleo Goodlett, Rev. Darrell Warren, Rev. Ronnie Smith and Rev. Jim Cook officiating. Burial will follow in the Brown Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 5-9 pm Saturday, July 19, at Vankirk-Grisell Funeral Home.
