Michael E. Driggers, 52, passed away on Sunday, August 6, 2006 at Rapid City Regional Hospital in South Dakota.
Mike was born on September 14, 1953 in Sumter, SC to the late Edwin T. Driggers and Jessie Mae Holland Driggers. Mike was a 1971 Graduate of Corbin High School where he was a 4year Letterman on the Football Team and was on the team which reached the Regional Finals in 1969. Mike was inducted to the Corbin Athletic Hall of Fame in 1996. After his graduation, he enlisted in the US Army on Aug 20, 1971 and served until he was honorably discharged on May 14, 1973. After his discharge, he attended Eastern Kentucky University. In 1974 Mike began his employment with the CSX Railroad where he retired as a Conductor.
Mike as a member of the Central Baptist Church in Corbin where he was an active member of the Sunday School, the Church Outreach Program, Visitation Program, and Mission Program. Mike was a key member of the Hurricane Relief Mission Team which went to Lakeshore, Mississippi.
Mike is survived by his wife, Barbara Driggers; Children, Jesse Driggers and Tanya Gallimore; Brother and Sisters, Evajean Wilson, Tommy Driggers and wife Delilah, and Patsy Henson and husband Paul; Grandchildren, Dakota, Dalton, and Deacon. Mike is also survived by numerous Nieces, Nephews, Family, Friends, and a community which will mourn his passing.
Funeral service will be held on Friday, August 11, 2006 at 11am at the Immanuel Baptist Church in Corbin with Rev. Darren Gaddis officiating. Burial will follow in Cumberland Memorial Gardens at Lily. Pallbearers will be Donnie Lloyd, Gary Mac McDaniel, Ricky Lynch, Ovie Hill, Larry Ramsey, Giulio Cima, Wade Helton, Moo McDaniel, Joe Butch White and Allen Vasquez. Honorary Pallbearers will be Tyler Henson, Cody Driggers, Roy King, Gary Proffitt, and Junior Hibbard. Military Graveside Honors by the VFW Post #1410 of Corbin.
Visitation will be after 6pm on Thursday at the Immanuel Baptist Church.
Arrangements by the Vankirk-Grisell Funeral Home
Services and visitation are being held at the offering of Immanuel Baptist Church in lieu of Central Baptist Church due to the congestion of the NIBROC festival
