Michelle Lynn Lanham

Michelle Lynn Lanham, age 41, of Corbin, went home to be with God on June 2nd, 2013. Michelle was diagnosed with Stage IV colon cancer at age 35 and, along with the love and support of scores of family and friends, undertook a courageous 6 year battle for life. Michelle was one of those special people who always chose a positive approach to the challenges she faced. She fought the disease with exceptional courage and grace. She was blessed with the love and support of her husband, Larry, who cherished her and traveled alongside her every step of the journey, and with two beautiful daughters, Mattie an Maggie. Together, Larry and Michelle prepared their daughters for the end and taught them to trust God no matter the situation.
Michelle's loving parents, Lonnie and Mercedes Stevens; brother, Joe Stevens and wife Shelley; sister, Melissa Pratt and husband Todd; grandmothers, Rella Stevens and Dora Hayes, along with a host of other family members and friends shared the journey with Michelle and helped her to make many happy memories.
Michelle was a positive role model not only for her daughters, but for all who knew her. Michelle loved life and she lived it with joy. Michelle was preceded in death by her grandfathers, Junior Hayes and J.B. Stevens. She was a homemaker and member of Faith Independent Baptist Church.
Funeral service for Michelle will be at 11 am on Wednesday, June 5th, at Vankirk-Grisell Funeral Home with Bro. Kennon Roark and Bro. Stacy White officiating. Burial will be in the Young Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6-9 pm Tuesday, June 4th, at Vankirk-Grisell Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you celebrate Michelle's life by reading a bible story to a child.
