Opal Jean Elliott Bishop, age 72, of Corbin, passed away on Tuesday, August 28, 2012, at the UK Medical Center in Lexington.
Born in Wilton, Kentucky, she was the daughter of the late Wilson and Gracie Walters Elliott. Opal was a member of the Paint Hill Baptist Church and had worked as a seamstress at Warner's Sewing and also had worked at Kentucky Fried Chicken.
In addition to her parents, Opal was preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, Joseph Henry Bishop, whom she wed on June 28, 1968. Joseph passed away on July 10, 2008. Brothers Charlie, Archie and Odell Elliott also preceded Opal in death.
She is survived by her brother, T.S. Reid Elliott of Corbin; by several nieces and nephews; and by her church family, all who mourn her passing.
Funeral services will be held at 2pm Friday, August 31, 2012, at Vankirk-Grisell Funeral Home with Rev. Derrick Mills officiating. Burial will be in the McFarland Cemetery West Corbin.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 pm Thursday, Aug. 30, at Vankirk-Grisell Funeral Home, 607 Master Street, Corbin, KY.
