Payton Creech, age 79, of San Antonio, Texas, passed away October 5, 2010. Payton was born in Lynch, Kentucky, on May 8, 1931 to Willie and Dessie Creech. He attended elementary school in Cumberland, KY; middle school in London, KY; and graduated from Corbin High School in Corbin, KY in 1949. After obtaining a B.S. Degree from the University of Kentucky in 1953 he married Jacqueline Senters and they attended graduate school at the University of Kentucky before moving to Detroit, Michigan where Payton attended graduate school at Wayne State. After Payton served in the U.S. Army, the couple moved to Tucson, Arizona where Payton was employed by Procter & Gamble. They moved to El Paso, Texas, Frankfort, Germany, and San Antonio, Texas where he retired in 1979. Jacqueline passed away after a long illness in 1981. He enjoyed his retirement by keeping busy with his hobbies of travel, photography and woodworking. He was a member of Hugh Harris Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite, York Rite, and Alzafar Shrine.
Payton is survived by his wife Sue Hall Creech. His daughter Elizabeth Payton Creech and her husband Chris Tolleson and their son Sean of Houston, Texas. His step-children, John Hall and wife, Meredith, and their three children Rowan, Houston, and George; Patti Stinson and husband, Floyd, and their son Lars; and Liz Fogarty and husband, Warren, and their children Jacob and Morgan. His sister Gladys Ann Strickland and nephew Danny Strickland.
Graveside service will be held on Saturday, October 16, 2010, at 11:00am at the Rest Haven Cemetery in Corbin, with Masonic service by Hugh Harris Lodge #938 F. & A.M. of Corbin.
