Phyllis Barton Parks was born June 25, 1934 in Corbin, Ky. She passed away July 21, 2021, age 87, in Jersey Village, Tx. She is now in the presence of God, reunited with her husband of 67 years, Richard Arlen Parks. Phyllis is also preceded in death by her parents Frank and Zona Barton of Corbin, Ky and her Son-in-law Walter A. Hunter III of Houston, Tx. Phyllis is survived by her four loving children, daughter Vicki Posey (husband Dan) of Rosebud, Tx, son Jeff Parks (wife Lee) of Corbin, Ky, daughters Donna Hunter of Webster, Tx and Dana Bowdoin (husband Mark) of Jersey Village, TX. Six grandchildren, Dr. Andrew Parks (wife Kristin) of Corbin, Ky, Rebecca Hubbard (husband John) of Cypress, Tx, Kelsey Parker (husband Will) of League City, Tx, Kyle Hunter of Galveston, Tx, Rachel Shipman (husband Doug) of Cypress, TX and Sarah Parks of Louisville, Ky. Six great-grandchildren, Everett and Grant Hubbard, Jeffery, Elise, and Theo Parks, and Walker Shipman.
After graduating from Lynn Camp High School, Phyllis married Richard and joined him in San Antonio, Tx where Richard served in the USAF and where they started their family. After the service Phyllis and Richard returned to Corbin for several years before moving to Lexington where Richard finished his schooling at UK and Phyllis lovingly raised their 4 children. They had a 30-year career with US Steel which took them to Ohio, Pennsylvania, Texas and Alabama, finally settling in Houston to be near their daughters. Pallbearers are son Jeff Parks, grandsons Andrew Parks and Kyle Hunter, sons-in-law Dan Posey and Mark Bowdoin, longtime friend Earl Pennington, and Tim Logan and Nathaniel Stephens. Funeral services will be held on Monday, July 26, 2021 at Vankirk-Grisell Funeral Home at 3pm with Reverend Bobby Joe Eaton officiating. Visitation will be 2pm-3pm. Interment will be at Pine Hill Cemetery.
