Rev. Earl J. Hopkins, age 84, of Corbin, passed away on Thursday,September 24, 2009.
He was born in Woodbine, KY to the late Chester and Stella Smith Hopkins. Earl was a retired supervisor from CSX Railroad and a member of Immanuel Baptist Church in Corbin. He was an ordained minister having pastored several local churches; as well as, churches in Louisville, Harlan, Florida, and served as the Chaplain at the Truck Stop in Corbin. Earl was a member of the Corn Creek Cemetery Board having served for many years as its President. Earl was instrumental in improving the condition of the cemetery in both appearance and financial strength.
In addition to his Parents, he was preceded in death by two Sisters, Ruby Peace Parks and Wilma Bray; three Brothers, Eldon, Edgar, and E. Hopkins.
He is survived by his Loving Wife, Marie Goff Hopkins; two Children, Glennis W. Hopkins and his wife Juanita, Earlene Hicks and husband Wes all of Corbin; four Grandchildren, Mark Hopkins and wife Gayle, and Chris Hopkins, Angela and Bethany Hicks; as well as many family and friends who will mourn his passing.
Funeral service will be on at 2pm Sunday, September 27, 2009 at the Vankirk-Grisell Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Corn Creek Cemetery.
Visitation will be on Saturday September 26th from 5-9pm at Immanuel Baptist Church.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Immanuel Baptist Church 720 Browning Acres Road, Corbin, KY 40701
or to a charity of the donor's choice.
