Born on February 23, 1919 in Gastonia, NC to William Nathanial Worley and Matilda Ruth Davis Worley, Ruby was the thirteenth of 14 children. During the summer of 1936, Ruby met a young man during revival meetings at New Hope Baptist Church, Wilkes County, NC. A few months later, Ruby was married to Ray Elmer Parlier on March 19, 1937. After 52 years of marriage, Ray died in 1992. Her life was one of happy service to others; family, friends and those she just met. Ruby and husband Ray built a home together on Walshtown Road in Boomer, NC. In 1947, son Elmer came into that home. Ruby not only took care of home and family, she held some other jobs. She tended chickens, picked apples, and cooked at the Boomer Elementary School. The last place she worked was at Carolina Rest Home, Wilkesboro, NC as an aide for 15 years retiring in 1982. Ruby moved to Corbin, KY in 2007 to be closer to her son.
Ruby loved her Lord and Savior. She was a faithful member of the Zion Hill Baptist Church, Boomer, NC. She enjoyed and spoke fondly of her Sunday School Class and enjoyed visiting shut-ins with her friends Carmen Pennell and Sadie McNeil. After moving to Corbin, Ruby attended the Liberty Baptist Church near her new home. She had many friends there including Bill and Mary Lou Giles.
Flowers are welcomed or contributions may be made in Ruby's memory to Bethany Baptist Church.
